Insulated Tools-Standards:
Gear Arc Safety insulated tools are rated for 1,000V AC/1,500V DC live line use, but are tested up to 10,000V AC. Our top-quality insulated tools provide protection against flashover shock, burns and drop tool shorts. They comply or exceed ASTM F1505 standards, and comply with IEC 900 standards for insulated hand tools. They meet OSHA 1910.333(c) (2) and NFPA 70E requirements. All of the insulated hand tools are impact resistant and flame retardant. All of our insulated tools are two color insulated. If the outer orange insulation becomes damaged to show the underlaying yellow insulation, the tool may no longer be insulated properly and should be replaced. Tools should be kept, dry and free of contaminants. Tools are laser marked for permanent identification.
Always look for this symbol before using any hand tool within 12" of a energized circuit exceeding 50 volts.
Arc Protection Clothing-Standards:
Clothing contained on this website meets current NFPA 70E and
ASTM F1506 standards. The performance specifications covers the flame resistantance of textile materials to be used for wearing apparel
for use by electrical workers exposed to momentary electrical arc and related thermal hazards (usually less than a 1/3rd of a second).
Clothing is rated in arc thermal performance value (ATPV) or Cal/Cm ², meaning the same value, either term can be used. The protection
of the clothing is to provide the user with insufficient heat transfer though the fabric or material to cause the onset of a second
degree burn, which occurs at 1.2 Cal/Cm². The level of protection provided by flame-resistant materals is that they do not continue
to burn after exposure to and removal of a source of ignition.
Always perform a electrical arc hazard assessment before starting any Job! Take a minute and download the NFPA 70E Compliance Guide and Electrical Work Planning form in our Resource Section.
The NFPA 70E Compliance Guide is just a guideline---Nothing replaces an actual Engineering Arc Flash Analysis by an Engineering firm and up to date panel labeling.
